Knick's Season Tip-Off W/ Special Guest Swizz Beatz
With Madison Square Garden closed until late October with the final touches of the stadium renovation’s second stage being applied the New York Knicks have been unable to host any home pre-season games. Since Amare Stoudemire’s arrival in New York it’s become a tradition for the Knicks to have a special free open practice for 20,000 lucky fans at MSG but since the arena was unavailable the team held a special event at the Beacon Theatre on 73rd street and Broadway for thousands of invited fans.
Power 105.1’s DJ Clue DJ’d the event and MSG sports reporter Tina Cervasio hosted the festivities. The Knick’s 7th Avenue Squad ran up and down the aisles of the Beacon Theatre and gave out free t-shirts and other prizes to many jubilant fans that showed their Knick pride boastfully.
Legendary New York rapper DMC of Run DMC came on stage and introduced a special group of young dancers sponsored by the Garden Of Dreams who put on an exciting routine for the fans.
These youth dancers were followed up by the 2012-2013 New York Knick City Dancers who formally introduced themselves to fans for the first time since being selected.
Swizz Beatz was the headline performer for the event and he put on a 15-minute set, which included tons of hits from his extensive catalog. Swizz Beatz debuted a special remix of Kanye West, Big Sean and Jay-z’s Clique, which re-worded the lyrics to say: “aint nobody balling like my Knicks, Knicks, Knicks!” After performing alongside the New York Knick City Dancers, Swizz Beatz previewed the team’s starting line-up theme song for the 2012-2013 season.
Every player on the training camp roster ran out to Swizz Beatz bass heavy theme song, and the rookies each performed embarrassing dance moves, which was likely part of team initiation. After the player’s introduced themselves, former Knick Baron Davis and Tina Cervasio asked the team many questions ranging from their fashion styles, the upcoming season and their chemistry and bond in the locker room.
The Knicks seemed to all be in high spirits and a few lucky fans won tickets to the opening game at MSG as well as autographed jerseys from Carmelo Anthony, Tyson Chandler and Amare Stoudemire.
The Knicks’ season kicks off on November 1st at the Brooklyn Nets new Barclays Arena followed by a Friday night home game on November 2nd against the defending champion Miami Heat.
