January 29th, 2014- Last night was all types of magical for J Cole, personally as well as professionally. J Cole performed what is easily his greatest show to date and his relationships with hip-hop stars Kendrick Lamar and Jay Z came full circle for legendary moments. J Cole brought his What Dreams May Come tour to The Theatre at Madison Square Garden and all of his visions came to fruition as he celebrated his 29th birthday.

J Cole’s showmanship should truly be applauded as his live band recreated every piano key and drum pattern sequence perfectly for the live concert. None of the songs sounded completely different from the album, and the band didn’t overpower his vocals. Cole flexed his catalog and a strong crowd of 5,000 some odd fans sang nearly every song word for word. J Cole took big gulps of Hennessy in-between records and soaked in the moment of greatness. Although J Cole didn’t receive Grammy recognition or many other mainstream accolades, it’s more than clear he’s one of the top rap stars today, period. No moment was greater than having his mentor Jay Z gift him with his own original Roc-A-Fella chain spontaneously on stage.

Two albums and a couple of classic mixtapes in, it will be quite interesting to see where things go next for Cole. Especially after already having outsold rap titan Kanye West, which he’d remind us while performing Forbidden Fruit alongside Kendrick Lamar.
